Visit the tranquil Prison Island, home to giant tortoises and stunning beaches. Enjoy a scenic breakfast by the water before venturing to the pristine shores of Paje.

Day 1: Prison Island and Paje

Day 1 timings will completely depend on your travel timings and arrival into Zanzibar. This ‘itinerary’ will follow our order which we would definitely recommend.

Airport Pick-Up and Transport to Stone Town

  • Arrive at Zanzibar Airport
    • Begin your adventure by traveling the short 20 minutes drive directly to the historic Stone Town, where winding alleys and bustling markets await.
    • The circled area (Baharia Hindi Beach) is where a lot of the boat tours depart from.
  • Boat Transfer to Prison Island
    • Meet your guide and boat captain at Baharia Hindi Beach before embarking on a picturesque boat ride over crystal-clear turquoise waters, watching for playful dolphins along the way.
    • This is a short 25 minute boat ride each way.
  • Tour Prison Island
    • Discover the fascinating history of the island’s former prison ruins.
    • Meet the resident giant tortoises, some over a century old, and stroll through lush pathways.
    • Have fun feeding the tortoises and talking to the knowledgeable guides who know them all by name.
    • Relax on the island’s pristine beaches, with stunning views of the Indian Ocean.
  • Return to Stone Town
    • Wander through the vibrant streets of Stone Town, taking in the sights and sounds of local life.
  • Breakfast by the Water
    • Enjoy a delicious breakfast at a waterfront café with the option of savoring fresh local dishes while gazing at the shimmering sea.
    • Our boys enjoyed pancakes and fruit. Was great to have options suitable for the kids.
  • Transfer to Paje
    • Take a scenic drive to the idyllic beach town of Paje across the island.
    • This journey is around 1hr 20minutes depending on traffic.
    • Settle into your accommodations and unwind on the powdery white sands, surrounded by swaying palm trees and the gentle sound of waves.
