Transition from the ancient wonders of Petra to the stunning desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. Experience the beauty and tranquility of this iconic Jordanian destination, where towering sandstone cliffs and vast, open spaces await.
Day 3: Petra – Wadi Rum
Depart Petra for Wadi Rum.
- Take a leisurely breakfast after a big day of walking yesterday.
- Either take a walk round the small shops, or check-out of your accommodation.
- Meet Hani (driver / tour guide) and depart. It’s approximately a 1.5 – 2Hr drive to the visitor centre.
- Don’t forget to ask for any extra experiences / stops on the way, and stock up on any extra snacks that you may want while there!

Arrival at Wadi Rum Visitor Centre:
- Check in and get any necessary permits (5JD per adult – Kids under 12 go free)
- Meet your guide in a 4×4, get acquainted and prepare for your adventure.
Safari Tour / Transport to Accommodation:
- Begin a thrilling 4×4 journey through the stunning desert landscapes.
- Depending on your guide and time, you can visit key landmarks such as Lawrence’s Spring, the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, and the Khazali Canyon.
- Visit amazing rock formations, huge dunes to climb, and of course take time to appreciate the vastness of the Wadi.
- Enjoy panoramic views and photo opportunities at each stop.

Evening & Dinner at Accommodation:
- Our Accommodation was simple but sufficient. Our room was a small raised hut with a double bed inside. Showers and bathroom facilities were shared between the 8 or so huts there.
- There was one large communal tent with a log burning fire and seating. This was where our meals and Turkish coffee was served. Dinner consisted of traditional dishes like zarb (a Bedouin barbecue), hummus, salads, and flatbreads.
- In the evening, the guides and staff smoked Shisha and played Bedouin music which was a great experience.
- To top it off, once dark, walking outside the ‘campsite’ was beautiful. The clear sky meant that the whole Wadi was lit up by the moonlight. The stars were out of this world!!!

Other Potential Activities:
- Visit a Bedouin camp and enjoy traditional mint tea.
- Experience Bedouin hospitality and learn about their way of life.
- Option to purchase handmade crafts and souvenirs.
- Experience the desert the traditional way with a camel ride.
- Ride through the golden sands as the sun begins to lower, creating a magical atmosphere.
- Lie back and gaze at the star-filled sky in one of the world’s best stargazing locations.
Day 4: Wadi Rum – Amman
- For us, we had to catch a late afternoon flight home, so set off on the journey from the accommodation to the road, and then the 3.5Hr drive soon after breakfast time.
- Depending on the time you have, I would suggest spending some time in Amman to explore properly. Here are some suggestions from friends who have been:
- 1. Visit the Citadel – An ancient historical site with ruins from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods.
- 2. Roman Theatre – Located in downtown Amman, this impressive Roman amphitheater dates back to the 2nd century. (This is almost directly opposite where we stayed on our first night in Jordan)
- 3. Rainbow Street – Stroll down Rainbow Street, a vibrant area known for its cafés, restaurants, and shops.
- 4. Jordan Museum – Discover the Jordan Museum, which showcases the country’s archaeological heritage.
- 5. Amman Citadel at Sunset – Return to the Amman Citadel for a breathtaking view of the sunset over the city.
