Daymaniat & Wadi Shab Itinerary

Day trip Itinerary
Dubai – Muscat – Wadi Shab – Dubai

We hope that this more detailed start to finish itinerary provides a clearer picture of our travel, timings and activities. The boat trip to Daymaniat Islands is a great length and allows for lots of swimming. Wadi Shab is a short hike and is well worth it for the cave and the waterfall, even with kids!

Day 1 Itinerary: Dubai – Muscat

1pm – Departure from Dubai

  • Depart from Dubai straight from work on Friday (Approximately 1pm)
  • Easy to follow routes on Google Maps or Waze – Route via Hatta.

2.45pm – Arrival at Hatta border post

  • Arrive at Hatta border post. Park up and head into the ‘departure hall’ to get passports stamped. This is an opportunity for a bathroom break and for the boys to stretch their legs a bit.
  • Drive through to the Oman border post, enter the ‘Arrivals hall’ and repeat the process.

3.30pm (depending on how busy the border is)- Drive to Muscat

  • Depart from the border towards Muscat.
  • In all honesty, this drive is very boring along the new expressway with little to see, especially as the light starts to fade.

6.30pm – Approximate arrival at accommodation

  • We stayed at Levatio Suites accomodation in Muscat.
  • There are 2 bedroom apartments available (kitchen and living space great for a family)
  • The accommodation has a decent sized pool on the roof and an additional small kiddies pool.

Day 2 Itinerary: Daymaniat Islands tour with ‘Daymaniat shells

7.30am – Drive to Al Mouj Marina, Seeb.

  • After a short 25 minute drive from our accommodation, we arrive at Al Mouj Marina, Seeb.
  • The ‘Daymaniat Shells’ office is easy to find.
  • Approximately 8.15am – Depart on the boat to the islands (journey of around 40 minutes)

8.50am- Arrival at the Dayminiat Islands

  • If you visit in September / August, there is a good chance that you might see and be able to swim with Whale Sharks on the way to the islands!
  • Your tour guide will take you to a number of different spots around the islands for snorkelling.
  • There are plenty of soft drinks, fruit and water available onboard, along with snorkeling equipment if needed.

1pm – Arrival back at Mouj marina

  • Say farewell to an amazing place as you arrive back at the marina.
  • There is a Shakespear & Co just meters away from the office if you fancied some lunch in comfy chairs with a great view of the boats.
  • After lunch, we headed back to the accommodation for kiddies nap time and to relax in the pool and chill out after a busy morning.

Day 3 Itinerary: Wadi Shab

  • Departed Muscat at approximately 7.30am and drive to Wadi Shab.
  • Approximately 1.5 hour drive over the mountains and then along the coast.

Arrival at Wadi Shab and the hike

  • Arrive around 9am and park up by the wadi (there are tons of VERY friendly goats – be careful as they will nose around inside the car if doors are left open!)
  • Hop on the little motor boat across the water (1OMR per person in CASH) – this is a return price.
  • Hike for around 40minutes depending on your pace (or if you have kids) over the boulders and alongside beautiful pools.
  • Approaching the start of the deeper pools, you’ll find sections of the rock along the water where you can leave your bags and clothes. (We had a dry bag to carry valuables with us in the water).
  • Walk and swim upstream. The water changes depth frequently and there are a couple of very slippery sections both in and out of the water. Tread carefully.
  • Reach the entrance to the cave. Depending on the water height, you would swim through the entrance with only just more than the width of your head, or it could be more than shoulder width wide.
  • Once inside the cave, there is an awesome waterfall which, if adventurous enough, you can climb using the knotted rope.
  • Either jump off the waterfall, or continue climbing above it to discover further pools.
  • For the more adventurous and adrenaline seeking of you, as long as you check pool depth first, there are some awesomely high jumps up here. Please be careful but have fun!

Depart Wadi Shab

  • Once back at the car park, there is a great little shop where you can grab some small bites to eat and some ice cold drinks (and coffee).
  • From here, head back either to Muscat for a night before returning to Dubai, or head straight back to Dubai (Approximately 7 hours with the border).

We hope this detailed itinerary helps you plan your day trip from Dubai to Khasab. Enjoy the adventure and create unforgettable memories!
