Day 1: Amman – Petra (via Mount Nebo, The Dead Sea & ‘Petra at Night’)

8pm -Arrival into Amman

  • Late flight into Amman from Dubai.
  • Pre-booked airport transfer from Airport to accommodation in centre of the city. Easy, cheap and quick.

7 AM – Meet Hani (driver) at the hotel – drive to Mount Nebo.

  • Meet Hani (driver) at the hotel and depart for Mt. Nebo. See important info page for contact details.
  • Approximately 1 hr drive from the centre of Amman (traffic dependent).
  • Mount Nebo is rich in historical and religious significance, making it an ideal spot for a family trip filled with exploration and learning.

10.30 am (depending on how long you stay at Mt. Nebo)- Drive to the Dead Sea (Amman Beach)

  • Approximately a 35minute drive to the Dead Sea.
  • Plenty of spots for free access to the sea and some hot springs (Ask Hani).
  • We Stopped at Amman Beach for ‘budget’ access including a swimming pool. Did the job for us but facilities are very basic and only accept cash!
  • If you have some extra cash, I’d recommend exploring the more ‘up-market’ options, but if you’re open to budget options then it should work just fine.
  • Floating in the sea and experiencing the mud was worth it! (mud at a small extra cost).

1.00pm – Depart for Petra.

  • Approximately 3hrs – 3.5hrs drive to Wadi Musa and Petra depending on traffic.
  • Arrive at the accommodation at approximately 4.30pm-5pm.
  • Check-in and grab some dinner (ask for recommendations). Often worth a wander down the main road.
  • Stop at the Petra visitor centre to purchase tickets for the next day (50JD for 1 day) – closes at 5.30pm.
  • If you opt to buy your day pass for the next day, purchase the additional ‘Petra at Night’ ticket for tonight (17JD & kids under 10 are free!! (means a slightly less busy day tomorrow)
  • ‘Petra at Night’ – 8.30pm gates open at the visitor centre. Walk to the treasury through the lantern lit rock formations. Enjoy the show and return to the centre for around 10.30pm.
