CORON

Welcome to Coron, Philippines—a tropical paradise renowned for its stunning natural beauty and vibrant marine life. Nestled in the province of Palawan, Coron boasts crystal-clear waters, pristine white-sand beaches. This destination is a haven for divers and snorkelers, offering world-class underwater experiences with its mesmerizing coral reefs, diverse marine species, and historic World War II shipwrecks. Visitors can also explore the enchanting Kayangan Lake, often dubbed the cleanest lake in the Philippines, kayak at Twin Lagoon and trek to Mount Tapyas for panoramic views of the island. Coron’s unique blend of adventure, relaxation, and natural splendor makes it a must-visit for any traveler.

Accommodation
  • We booked a 3 night stay at ‘Tag Resort’. 20 minute drive from the airport via a shared shuttle minibus, and 10 minutes from Coron ‘Town Proper’ (where the boat tours depart from).
  • Offering a good sized swimming pool (plus a good shallow area), bar area and restaurant. Very friendly staff who were always accommodating.
  • We booked a ‘Superior Double’ with 2 double beds and a small balcony (this was too small to actually spend any time on!)
Transfers / Transportation
  • Airport Transfer: Tag Resort offers a shared airport transfer (Minibus) for 300 Php per person and under 3yrs for free.
  • Be aware that the minibus was quite squashed and our youngest (1yrs old) had to sit on our laps. No seatbelts.
  • Boat Tour Transfer: Private vehicle from the accommodation to the boat port. Around a 10 minute drive.
Tours (locations / costs)
  • With young children we opted to pay a little more for a private boat tour. This gave us freedom to choose how long we spent at each location which was perfect as the we could work around the boys a little more.
  • Tours are available to book through hotels and accommodation, but also through private tour companies online. Most prices are very similar, but it’s definitely worth shopping around to see what’s available and what suits you the best.
  • TIP: Consider what you would prefer (tranquil beaches / snorkeling / kayaking / beachside restaurants) before choosing your tour. Each tour is different!! Private tours often accommodate requested changes too so make sure you ask!!
  • TIP: Be sure to check with the provider for specifics (duration / equipment / dietary requirements).
Kayangan Lake

Kayangan Lake, located on Coron Island in the Philippines, is often hailed as one of the cleanest and most picturesque lakes in the country. Surrounded by lush greenery, the lake’s crystal-clear, emerald waters offer a serene and mesmerizing experience. After a short but steep walk (mixture of steps and slopes), you are rewarded with stunning panoramic views from the top before descending into the amazingly clear waters of the lake. Ideal for swimming and snorkeling, Kayangan Lake boasts impressive underwater rock formations and is actually a blend of freshwater and saltwater. The breathtaking scenery make it a must-visit spot for anyone traveling to Coron.

  • The first stop on our tour. (Entrance fees of 300 php should be included in your tour cost).
  • Arrival at the wooden boardwalk (really cool as its a meter or so above the clear water and runs along the cliffside).
  • There are no barriers & about 1 meter wide, which could be unnerving for some people with smaller children. Despite this, we were fine with our 2 boys and again the guides were very helpful. We had to walk around 100m until hitting ‘solid ground’.
  • Small stores give the opportunity to purchase refreshments if needed. This is the start of the climb!
  • A short but steep climb up the cliffside brings you to a viewpoint. We didn’t stop here as there was a very long queue for photo’s, but the view was AMAZING!
  • Just passed the viewpoint, you hang a right and begin to descend down towards the lake. Through the trees you’ll catch glimpses of the turquoise water as you get closer.
  • A wooden boardwalk bends round to the right and the left when you arrive at the water. There are various wooden ladders down into the water. There are not many places keep your possessions but are a few benches (We went left and perched our bags, clothes and towels on the rocks).
  • Life-jackets are mandatory. Your tour guides will either carry one for you from the boat or give you one when you arrive.
  • We didn’t take snorkels or masks but i would highly recommend it, even if just to enjoy how clear the water is. There are fish to look at and some cool underwater rock formations too.
  • As you can see in the picture below, it was pretty busy when we arrived and the lake was quite full of orange lifejackets. Once we swam away from the edge it felt much quieter. I would recommend requesting an earlier tour departure and aim for a 9am arrival at the lake if you want to try and avoid the crowds.

EL-NIDO

Our second part of our adventure landed us in El Nido, Philippines—a breathtaking destination celebrated for its dramatic landscapes and pristine beaches. Located in the northern part of Palawan, El Nido is famous for its towering limestone cliffs, turquoise waters, and hidden lagoons. Similar to Coron, adventure seekers and nature lovers flock here to explore its coral reefs, diverse marine life, and stunningly clear waters. Island hopping is a must-do activity! Some of the highlights include Kayaking in the picturesque Big Lagoon, visiting Secret and Seven Commandos Beach and marveling at Secret lagoon. On land, visitors can hike to breathtaking viewpoints, relax on the powdery sands of Nacpan Beach, and immerse themselves in the local culture. El Nido’s unparalleled beauty and endless adventures make it an essential destination for any traveler.

Accommodation
  • We booked a 5 night stay at El-Nido Coco Resort. 20 minute drive from the airport via a shared shuttle minibus, and 10 minutes from Coron ‘Town Proper’ (where the boat tours depart from).
